PT2010: Online Collaboration Tools That Enhance Learning and Productivity

Eric Robertson and Tim Noteboom are talking about collaboration tools this morning in the Tech Savvy session at PT2010.

People, productivity software, collaborative software and methods are the elements of collaboration. Web 2.0 allows more collaboration. Consumers are using Web 2.0 tools to find out more about their healthcare. Healthcare practitioners are using Web 2.0 tools for gathering information, education, and also collaboration and care delivery. There were some great examples of how new web technology is changing health care and how it can be usefully integrated into physiotherapy practice and education.

We had another exploration of Web 2.0 Tools with a focus on collaboration including:

  • RSS feeds and Google Reader with some nice examples of applications in teaching and learning.
  • Using Voice Thread as an audio replacement for traditional discussion forums.

Then we moved on to Social Media:

  • The power of getting a message out using social media
  • Crowdsourcing as a solution to answer questions
  • Great examples of using Twitter for professional applications
  • The importance of developing a social media strategy and maintaining privacy

Finally there were some great case studies presented to put all the information into perspective, examples of how both Tim and Eric have used new technology in their learning and teaching.
