Educating with Twitter, what do we know?

Do you know of any research, projects or knowledge relating to the use of Twitter in physiotherapy, medical or other health professional education?  Recently I have become involved in a research project to evaluate the use of Twitter on learning.  This project is being directed by Roger Kerry (@RogerKerry1), Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham, and in an extension of their previous peer learning projects will explore the impact of using Twitter for education with a class of physiotherapy students.

We are in the initial stages of exploring the idea and are looking for similar projects have already taken place, and are also in the process of completing a literature review.  We would be very interested to hear from anyone in physiotherapy, medical or other health professional education who has experience of using Twitter for education or who knows of any related research or other knowledge related to this topic.  Please add your comments below or email me directly.

The video below explains more about the project and you can read the proposal here.

New Website!!

Rachael Lowe - physiotherapy technology specialist websiteFor a long time now I have been selling my skills as a web developer who builds websites and e-learning resources specifically for physiotherapy and physical therapy business. The most embarrassing part of this has been the fact that I myself have had a website that is out of date and full of broken links. Not a good selling point!! Anyway, opportunity comes from diversity, my recent knee injury and subsequent inactivity has provided me with a little me time and hey presto, this new website is the result.

Now I know I’ve said this before and have failed (most bloggers go through this at several points in their blogging career) but I am intending to start writing again.  My topics are e-learning, social media, websites, search engine optimisation and other snippets of physiotherapy related technology news and information.  I will also be keeping you updated with the projects that I am working on (check out my next post on the Tweed project) which you can see in my Portfolio which isn’t yet up-to-date so expect more here over the coming days.

So, welcome (or welcome back!), enjoy, share and connect.

Educational Videos and Website – Central London Community Healthcare, NHS

This project at the Central London Community Healthcare division of the NHS was an exciting blend of media and website production. This was the first opportunity that we have had to combine our web development expertise with the video production expertise of our friend and renowned cameraman Keith Partridge. The clinic in Westminster, London asked us to help them produce several educational videos that aimed to inform their local GP’s of the musculoskeletal services that they provided.  These videos were to be openly made available in a dedicated clinic website that the clinic team could independently manage.

Features of this project included:

  • Website with content management system.
  • Bespoke design with NHS consistent branding.
  • Videos made available for varying bandwidth capabilities.
  • Videos also made available for web-based  and mobile viewing.
